Come learn more about the new Living History Heritage Ambassador Program at the Steveston Historic Sites! Currently the Steveston Historic Sites which include; Britannia Shipyards National Historic Site, the Steveston Tram, the Steveston Museum and London Heritage Farm, are recruiting for Heritage Ambassadors! This volunteer position breaks down the walls of traditional museum and gallery work and encourages and promotes visitor and community engagement through activities, demonstrations and a more hands-on and interactive experience.

Here you will help share the stories of those who once lived and worked here, while demonstrating activities that would’ve taken place, such as playing cards, Mah Jong or kids games, sewing, embroidery and net mending, butter churning, tram car mechanics and much more! You will be dressed in period dress.

No experience is necessary. Training and costume is provided. Volunteers won’t be acting/in character however a love for theater and performance is always a bonus. Volunteers must be at least 14 years old, have excellent communication skills and be willing to learn and share their knowledge and enthusiasm with the public!

Family Day Weekend at Britannia

Join us at Britannia Shipyards for Family Day weekend!

Discover Richmond’s storied past over Family Day at Britannia Shipyards National Historic Site. Watch net mending and then try your hand at loading net needles in the Seine Net Loft, playing mah jong in the Chinese Bunkhouse, and embroidery in the Murakami House. And for the young, or young at heart, there are traditional children’s games in the field (weather dependent).

Participate in an exhibit scavenger hunt at the Seine Net Loft and learn how people lived and worked at Britannia Shipyards. Don’t miss a visit to the Innovation Station inside the Seine Net Loft to try marine-themed children’s activities.

Britannia Shipyards – Site Update for the Holidays

When water levels are predicted to be higher than usual, temporary flood panels are installed which protect our site from localized flooding.

This means that unfortunately there will be no access to the Shipyard or Seine Net Loft until January 2, 2020. We encourage visitors to explore the other buildings at Britannia Shipyards during this time!

Britannia Shipyards is open 12:00-5:00pm every day, with the exception of December 25, 26 and January 1 where we will be closed for the holidays.
